January - February: World Tournament of Surfing at Todos Santos Island on the biggest, most powerful waves in Mexico. The date depends on the waves, and it will likely arrive soon given current conditions. The waiting period for the perfect Killer waves began in January and extends through February. This year the event will feature a live component with some of the best big-wave surfers in the world invited, including Greg Long and Paige Alms. February 02: Día de la Candelaria, celebrated annually on February 2nd, marks a day of religious significance. Families commemorate the occasion by dressing up a doll or a figure of God, taking it to church for blessings. Post-mass gatherings revolve around enjoying tamales. Also known as Candlemas or the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus Christ, this Christian celebration, falling 40 days after Christmas, globally observes the day when Mary presented Jesus at the temple in Jerusalem.
